Some of the Advantages of Installing a Boiler in Skokie, IL

There are a lot of choices homeowners can make for heating their homes: heat pumps, furnaces, geothermal systems and boilers, just to name a few. All have proven energy efficiency, but each one brings something different to the table for your home. Today we’re going to talk about the benefits of installing a boiler in Skokie, IL and some of the advantages this heating option can offer you. Heating equipment is complicated to install and repair, so it’s important to hire professionals for any heating work you may have. For over 15 years, Malek Heating & Cooling has helped install, repair and maintain heating and cooling equipment for multiple customers, and we can help you from start to finish with your boiler installation.

How Does a Boiler Work?

In a boiler system, hot water is heated by a fuel source (typically gas or oil, but solid fuels can also be used). The heat for your home comes from the hot water or steam that has been created from the hot water. The water or steam is then distributed through the piping system to outlets by circulating pumps that are a part of the piping system. Outlets for the heat can be radiators, baseboard heaters or radiant floor heating. Once the set temperature is achieved, the water cools (in the case of steam, the steam changes back into water) and returns to the boiler.

Advantages of Boilers

There are a few advantages to consider when it comes to heating your home with a boiler:

  • Provides even heating – boilers can provide even heating because of the gradual way the heat is released. This is very different from forced hot air, which blows out from a single vent.
  • Quiet – boilers are comparatively quiet when compared to ducted systems. This is because once the water reaches the needed temperature, the distribution is silent.
  • Easy to zone – because boilers use piping for distribution rather than in-wall vents, a boiler system can be easier to zone.
  • Reduced dust – boiler systems operate on a closed-loop, so they don’t create and distribute dust the way forced hot air systems do. This can be especially helpful for people with allergies.
